There was an initial session to motivate all the stakeholders in order formulate a village development plan for the Hiniduma village in Galle district.
Religious Leaders, Government Officers, and office bearers of many civil societies willingly participated in this exercise.
It will be continued in many rounds of similar sessions which is an Empowerment process in the Community Development practiced by Caritas Network.
The above has commenced for 28 selected members, who are the beneficieries of the Zero Poverty project, implemented among the 12 Self Help Groups at Makuluwa and Ethiligoda villages in Galle Urban area, It is being conducted at SED Galle Centre.
An event to celebrate Deepavali-the Festival of Light - was organized by the Peace Unit of Caritas SED Galle for Inter Religious Leaders in and around Galle City at Siva Kovil, Kaluwella, Galle.
Caritas SED Galle assisted 500 families who were affected by the recent floods in both Galle and Matara districts with non food items. The total amount utilized for this purpose was Rs.717,500/= and it was made available by Caritas Sri Lanka to SED Galle as an emergency relief.
In response to the request by the Divisional Secretary of Athuruliya in the Matara district, Caritas SED Galle provided 187 number of mineral water bottles (5 lit) as an emergency need to each family of flood victims in and around Akuressa Town. A sum of Rs 24,900 /= was utilized for this purpose.
The ten leaders of Caritas Bungaladesh of Mymensingh Region Co-operative Credit Union (CCU) visited to Caritas SED Galle to share and learn of Book Keeping systems and exposure visit to small groups of Caritas SED Galle and well established Micro Credit Organization.
Book keeping training program held at Matara and it’s facilitated by former Director of Caritas SED Galle & Parish Priest Shrine of Our Lady of Matara- Rev Fr Damian Arsakularatne MBA. After the training session they were visited to Mirissa Self Help Group (SHG) and transit to Hambantota District.
Next day they were visited to Hambantota WDC micro credit banking for women’s and few of SHG’s of CSG. National center staff of Caritas Sri Lanka andDirector with staff of Caritas SED Galle assisted to organize the program success.
Creating a Conducive Environment for Religious Amity (CCERA) Project
Makuluwa IRF Religious dignitaries Invited to the Main Inter Religious Forum Members to participate and share their HAJJ Festival to commemorate the cultural values and building a strong relationship among the multi religions. Through heartiest respect among them with individual dignitaries .Buddhist monks, Catholic Priests, Hindu Kukkals and Muslim Mawulavies with invitee IRF members were participated to the event. They warmly welcome all the Religious Leaders and other IRF members (Only males) to the Jummah Mosque main hall. Agenda of the event share the equal opportunities to address short messages to their Hajj festival comparing to the own religions.Commemorate Hajj Festival with the Inter Religious Participation at the Jummah Mosque - Makuluwa. It’s seems good sharing among them. Few items of Islam blessings done by Dhaham School Children and they were appreciated with gifting educational items by the CSG.

Inter Religious Forum Committee Leaders of Kanampitiya , Makuluwa, Thalapitiya ,Ehiligoda and Kaluwella meets at after the heavy rain falls and flooded the areas and help each other by sharing dry rations and cooked meals from the government and Politicians. Some are leaved their places and gone to the relative places during time of floods. When they comes all the Toilet pits were spill and effected the areas from floods and stagnated water with dirt mud the places and interior houses. Many of them are cleaned their places hardly to get normal but again and again shavers make the task difficult. Sanitation standards were very low and it’s affected direct to their hygiene and health. Result of that many of family members get sick and many of with skin deceases, purging .Some of suffering Rheumatic pains.
There for Religious leaders requesting to have Mobile Health camp for the emergency treatments at the place. These people are in low income and most of them are laboring means of live .IRF Main forum requesting from Caritas Sed Galle to assist some way to the people for their Health. Then and their CCERA Project and EHPZP project joint handed at the time and requesting from Stakeholders to assist to the situation. Strong link of Lions Club of Galupura Central (GPC) (there are many of Doctors memberships) willing to corporate and join venturing to the situation by organizing Health Camp for the Emergency treatments in sooner time. Religious temples and Mosques, Churches announced and mediated the dates and location arrangements. Lions of GPC provided their Doctor consultation with some medicine and EHPZP project bears the Medicines cost. The Event of Health camp was very success and treated 222 patients in registered. 03 Typhoid illnesses patients were recovered and admitted to the General Hospital.
Many influences Stakeholders participated for the project and its good sign and opportunity to form strong IRF Main Forum at the last as a Conflict Management Buffer Squad.
Caritas SED Galle, recently supported the 02 Self Help Groups at the Ukwatata Village in Galle, with a special Grant of Rs.40,000/= each, to be utilized by Groups for Livelihood enhancement of the members. Selected members from 07 SHGs, who had followed the preparatory sessions on business plannning, would be the beneficieries of the said grant, which is a revolving fund. This project too is funded by Caritas Sri Lanka & Caritas Korea.
An orientation session was held at Caritas SED Galle recently on the Micro Finance Project Funded by Caritas Sri Lanka National Centre.
29 SHG Leaders from 05 Self Help Groups from Galle district & 05 Groups from Matara District participated in the said training session. Each Group will be provided with funds to be utilized as a revolving fund. The members of such Groups will be the beneficieries of the Project.
