A Peace Campaign with the participation of Religious Leaders of all Faiths, was conducted to prevent the spreading of racial riots & violence in and around Galle urban area and also to educate the mass not to give into emotions but to reason out and act prudently, especially when rumors are speeded on the recent violence at Aluthgama, which has created hatred and animosity among the majority Sinhalese and the minority Muslims.
Under the special project to assist the low income Catholic Families in the Diocese, two Leadership Trainings were held – one at Matara in Sinhala medium and another one at Deniyaya in Tamil medium, for the Leaders of the same Groups. There are 34 such Groups in 14 Parishes of our Diocese.
A Session on Training of Trainers (TOT) on Peace Education for the Programme Staff of both SED Galle and Codesep, was conducted at Caritas Center, on 09th June 2014.
Caritas SED Galle had to face a challenge when some of the areas in Galle district were devastated by incessant rains followed by floods during first week of June 2014 extending to second week as well.
CSG informed Caritas Sri Lanka - SEDEC that the immediate requirements were to provide the victims with drinking water bottles as the wells in the villages had been flooded.
As supplying of drinking water bottles were the priority, CSG purchased and distributed 1000 mineral water bottles (5 liter) to the flood victims in Pitigala and Niyagama area in Niyagama Divisional Secretariat Division, Galle.
We greatly appreciate the generosity with which CSL assisted us with the above relief for the flood victims.
