Blessings from Bishop

bishop raymond wickramasingheThe Church’s involvement in justice, peace and human development must be viewed as the social dimension of the Church’s mission to evangelize.  Evangelization, by its very nature, is liberative and is “a service rendered to the Christian Community and also to the whole of humanity”. It has the potential to “transform humanity from within making it new”. (Evangelii Nuntiandi 1,18). Issues of justice, peace and human development, while being integral to the social life of the human person, must be viewed as a constitutive part of the Church’s mission for the redemption of the human race and its liberation from every oppressive situation.

Caritas SED Galle has always been renowned for her work and being in solidarity with the poorest of the poor.  Information gathering, exposure – immersion programmes of the SED Galle, have personally touched the committed work force and have made an immense impact in the hearts and minds of the people in the Southern Province for the last so many years.  For SED Galle, compassion is seeing Jesus in the eyes of beggars, malnourished and special children, education, tortured prisoners, massacred youth, forlorn widows, traumatized children, farmers and fisher folk, voiceless and stateless tea plantation workers, migrants and refugees and much more.

For us in the diocese of Galle, the issues related to justice, peace, human rights and community development become a part of our mission, leading  to concentrated action at various levels for a more just and equitable society.

It is my hope that Caritas SED Galle, together with the Diocese of Galle, would take an even greater interest and leadership in this all important area of Christian witness.

Let us work towards the Formation of a Just and Sustaining Social Order
where Gospel Values of Love, Equality and Peace are Nurtured and Lived.

fr director sed galle“ Dignity of Man is the Glory of God “…. These motivating words have always inspired and guided me, to get actively involved in many Projects of Community Development and Empowerment throughout my Priestly life.

Hence I thank the Lord of Peace and Justice for all the Blessings I have received all these years from His Merciful Hands to be an instrument in the field of Socio and Economic Development of the underprivileged and the marginalized people of our society.

I also thank his lordship, the Bishop of Galle for giving me once again the opportunity to serve the vulnerable people.

With gratitude I remember all the Past Directors of SED Galle for their untiring service while they shouldered the responsibilities as SED Galle Director.

I greatly appreciate the work of Rev.Fr.Damian Arsakularatne, my predecessor, for all his dedicated services specially during his tenure of office for 06 years, which certainly was a time of arduous work and challenges due to the work of rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Tsunami affected people in the Province.

I am so blessed and privileged to have a committed team of Staff at Caritas  SED Galle. They indeed  have assisted me  with much love and commitment , since I took over CSG  on 01st March 2012. I am ever grateful to each one of them.

The Director and Staff of Caritas Sri Lanka too have been very understanding and helpful in carrying out my duties. Many funding partners of the Caritas Network too have promised their support for the future endeavors of Caritas SED Galle.

I look forward to work with like minded people and groups with close relationship and commitment in bringing considerable happiness and hope to all those people, marked with social injustice and inequality and thereby making the Dream of Caritas SED Galle - a Better Tomorrow, a Reality.

I am confident as the Holy Mother the Catholic Church is to declare 2012 -2013 as the “Year of Faith” to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, we of Caritas SED Galle, too will contribute our little mite in order “ to Strengthen our Faith in God and to Proclaim Him with Joy to the People of Our Time ” in and through the committed service to all  His People in this part of our Motherland.

Let us work towards the Formation of a Just and Sustaining Social Order where Gospel Values of Love, Equality and Peace are Nurtured and Lived.

May God Bless us all in this endevour  !
